Paul is a fresh designer who uses modern techniques and materials with traditional workmanship and principles to create simple, stylish and modern pieces of jewellery. His work is different and allows it’s wearer to stand out from the crowd. Paul uses his design-led background to create jewellery made from materials such as sterling silver, pigmented resin and hard woods, all creatively fused to produce pieces you won’t have seen before. Contemporary jewellery designer Paul Coyne of Nine Design describes his work as erring on the side of minimalism. The pieces respect architectural principles, he explains, which makes sense when you discover that Paul has a background in furniture design having studied the subject at GMIT in Letterfrack, Co. Galway. Upon graduation he joined the family business, working as a general contractor. He started making small turned wood gifts and discovered his inner dandy when he made himself a pair of cufflinks. They offer a subtle way of accessorising, he explains.
Paul has just completed the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland course in jewellery and Goldsmithing Skills & Design.
